WHERE TO GET A GOOD CUPPA

(or where to bean, to see and be seen)

  • Enjoying a cuppa at Area Cafe while shopping for chic furniture and home accents is a must. Look for their shops at Glorietta and SM Megamall.

  • Caffe A-Go-Go is a quaint little cafe at the corner of Salcedo and dela Rosa streets in Legaspi Village. Patterned after a New York cafe and deli, this shop is worth a visit. A great escape from traffic and city buzz (not to mention the gloom of the nearby hospital).

  • Cibo just moved their island to a more permanent location in Glorietta. Check out the sci-fi appeal it provokes--cold steel, warm coffee and a psychedelic amber wall. Take caution in ordering the Tiramisu, apparently they don't know the difference between lady fingers and the local Otap cracker.

  • The Coffee Beanery has locations in Shangri-la, Robinson's and Greenbelt malls

  • And who can miss The Coffee X-perience when their stands litter the malls? They get pretty inconsistent from stand to stand though.

  • Dome probably offers the best retreat in Greenbelt mall. Well appointed and very cozy, they offer great coffee teamed with decent meals.

  • Figaro has coffee *oases* in Glorietta and Shangri-la shopping malls. Although they could get smoky at times they're just the perfect respite for whatever reason.

  • Kavezo along Timog Ave. in Quezon City

  • Old Manila Coffee House evokes Old World charm reminiscent of Hispanic Philippines

  • Perk Avenue is the most awesome place I've visited. They have a great concept incorporating a gallery and a business center/lounge. The food is fusion wraps and drinks run an endless list with liquor and Italian sodas (the ONLY place that serves them!) served alongside great coffee. And they carry my favorite tea -- TAZO! This is definitely my kind of hangout.

  • Scribe and Brewers at the 5th level of Shangri-la mall is one of the mall's interesting surprises. Coffee is truly for the thinking class.

  • The coffee giant, Starbucks, has the best perch for people watching at the ground floor of 6750, though there are 13 other locations all over the Metro. Although I am for the enterprising individual when it comes to food and beverage businesses, this corporate roaster scores well. I've actually been transported to a coffee paradise and have had perfect lattes everytime.

  • Coffee bars have been integrated into retail shops and The Store, Inc. is a perfect example. Interesting furniture and fashion accents become the subject of coffee talk. This is actually operated by the Figaro Coffee Co.
